Preparing for Queen’s Move-In Day

It may be hard to imagine at the beginning of August, but we’re only a few short weeks away from the return of Kingston’s student populations! At the end of the month, thousands of students will be finding their way back to Queen’s University, RMC, and St. Lawrence College. We’re all looking forward to the energy (and economic impact!) that comes with this group, but it’s important to be prepared for the logistics of such a significant shift.

Move-In Dates

Many upper-year students will be moving back to Kingston in the coming weeks, but we'll see the the most concentrated traffic on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, August 19 after 5:00 pm

  • Saturday, August 30 between 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Be Prepared

These dates also present an opportunity for businesses to benefit from the heightened activity. Most students will be dropped off by their families, many of which may be visiting Kingston for the first time. We want to make sure we welcome new, and returning students and their families, while making the process as smooth as possible.

Below are some tips and suggestions for preparing for move-in day:

  1. Showcase your offerings and provide a warm welcome to Kingston's newcomers.

  2. If you’re a restaurant or café, be prepared for an influx of new customers on those days.

  3. If you own or manage a business that supplies materials vital for people moving in- stock up!

  4. Prepare for potential challenges by planning ahead and ensuring your business is well-staffed and stocked.
