Parking Garage Availability

There are nearly 800 on-street spaces in the BIA boundary and nearly 1300 spaces in the surrounding public lots. City of Kingston lots and privately owned lots also offer monthly parking at reasonable rates within the downtown core area. 

Parking in general is a touchy subject in any downtown. Downtown Kingston is no exception. Parking for people who work downtown is a necessary part of running a business in the core. Parking for visitors is necessary to keep everyone in business. So how do we, as a community come to a happy place about parking? Read on for some tips on how you can help make parking in downtown Kingston better for everyone.

Save on-street parking for customers and people with physical disabilities

Business owners and employees, as tempting as it is to park on the street outside of your business, it's not the best idea. Your neighbours depend on parking for their customers, and when you and/or your employees take up that space on a regular basis it has the potential to cause friction. Additionally, parking for more than 3 hours on the main streets is an infraction and you could end up with a ticket. And lastly, it's the most expensive parking there is. Set an example and get a parking permit, or lease a private space. As a part of onboarding a new employee be sure to let them know that on-street parking is reserved for customers and those with physical disabilities.

I work downtown. Where do I park?

There is on-street permit parking available in Areas B, Area C and Area F - all within an easy walk of the downtown core. Click here for all parking permit options. Area C is the closest as it's just north of Queen St and there are 70 permits available in Area C. Most permits cost $99.75 per month, a couple of zones in Area B are a bit higher.   • Anglin Parking Lot (Wellington St at Bay St), just north of OHIP building for $99.75 per month

  • Doug Fluhrer Parking Lot at 350 Wellington St. for $86.75 per month.

Note: The Byron, Barrack, Pump House and McKee Lots do have waitlists ranging from 6 months to 3 years.

Private Parking

Keystone Property Management has various locations available, dependent on availability, mainly located on Brock Street, Princess Street, and Queen Street between Barrie and Sydenham Street. There are single double spots (fits 2 vehicles and can be shared) available, all outdoors and winter maintained.

Where do my customers park?

The best place to direct your able bodied customers to park is in the parking garages and surface parking lots where there is lots of parking and no time limit. Promote a ‘Park Once and Walk’ culture to encourage longer visits and discovery of the amazing range of businesses in our downtown core. Honk App

Encourage your customers to use the Honk Mobile App to pay for hourly on-street parking and at these surface lots: Barrack, Frontenac, Angrove, Springer Memorial, McKee Memorial, Armstrong Memorial, King/Queen, Ontario/Brock and Upper & Lower Robert Bruce. HONK is not accepted in the Hanson and Chown Garages.

    How can I report a parking violation? 

    If you notice a vehicle committing a parking violation, please submit a service request. Click Here

    Examples of common violations include cars that are parked:

    • In an accessible parking zone,

    • In a no-stopping or no-parking zone,

    • During the restricted time,

    • On-street during winter parking regulations,

    • In a bus zone,

    • In a commercial loading zone,

    • Blocking a driveway, and

    • Too close to an intersection.

    Please provide the following information when submitting a service request:

    • The location of the parking violation (for example, in a specific parking lot or in front of a street address),

    • The time you noticed the parking violation, and

    • As much identifying information about the offending vehicle as possible (for example, licence plate, make and model of the vehicle).

  • To get on a waitlist for monthly parking permits/passes:

    Use the Honk Mobile App to pay for hourly parking at these surface lots: Barrack, Frontenac, Angrove, Springer Memorial, McKee Memorial, Armstrong Memorial, King/Queen, Ontario/Brock and Upper & Lower Robert Bruce. Honk is now available on-street and in the lots, it is not accepted in the Hanson and Chown Garages.
