The holiday season is one of the busiest seasons of the year for many downtown businesses. It’s important to fully understand what parking is available and how to ensure that visitors have the best possible shopping experience.

Promote Free Parking in Downtown Kingston to your customers

Promote free on-street and above ground parking lots to your customers on your website and social channels. The promotion is for the following dates: Saturday, December 6th, 13th and 20th, plus every Sunday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. This is brought to you by Downtown Kingston BIA and the City of Kingston.

Chown and Hanson and Robert Bruce Parking Garages

Free parking does not extend to the Hanson and Chown parking garages on Brock St. or the Robert Bruce Garage off of Bagot St. BUT there is ample parking in these lots and no limit. Please encourage your staff to use the lots when at work so that customers can enjoy the free parking.

Parking Garage Safety

Over the past few years’ several upgrades and refurbishments have taken place at the Chown, Hanson and Robert Bruce Garages. These included concrete repairs, waterproofing, bright white paint, door replacements, and staircase replacements at the Hanson Garage. In addition, the security cameras have been upgraded, and many new camera locations have been added for additional security.  Lighting was also a major component in the upgrades, all fixtures and lights were replaced, and additional lighting was added to improve safety in the garages. 

The city is currently upgrading the gated garage systems which will improve the customer experience as the current systems are quite outdated.  Amongst other features the new system will include access controls which will be fastened to all entry points to limit access to parking ticket holders only. New fencing and gates will be added along with high-speed garage doors.
